The Public Works Department is currently actively implementing the installation of signs prohibiting cycling on several major roads throughout the country. The move is a follow-up action after several routes were categorised as high-risk areas for cyclists. The matter was among those touched upon in the topic "Safety Control for Cyclists on Brunei Darussalam Roads" discussed during the Rampai Pagi Interview Session on 06th April.
The installation aims to provide a strict reminder that any cycling activity, whether individually or in a group, is not allowed in risky areas for safety. This prohibition remains in effect even if they use complete safety gear, unless they have special permission from the National Road Safety Council, MKKJR.
MKKJR has identified several routes in each district for the public to conduct recreational cycling activities. Aside from prohibition signs, authorities are also in the process of installing specific directional signs to make it easier for cyclists to identify the permitted routes. The public can also scan the QR code of the cycling law via the MKKJR and Attorney General's Office social media platforms.
